In settled weather there is excellent paddling immediately adjacent to town. The numerous islands and coves between Middle Channel and Eastern Channel allow hours of rewarding and scenic exploration. On many summer days it is not difficult to visit still more coves and islands across Eastern Channel and make your way to Pirate Cove on Cape Burunof. Here you can picnic as part of a day trip or plan to camp overnight. East of town beyond Entry Point, Eastern Channel leads into Silver Bay, a steep-walled fjord that extends nearly 6 scenic miles southeast. The bays and islands to the south of Eastern Channel offer more remote and peaceful paddling with the opportunity to see whales and a great variety of waterfowl.
