Tracy Arm is the low-budget version of Glacier Bay. It attracts quite a few kayakers every summer. The sheer cliffs of the fjord offer incredible views but few places to camp. Those who elect to paddle the approximately 30 miles from Holkham Bay to South Sawyer Glacier will usually experience protected waters most of the way. However there is a lot of boat traffic, and the attendant noise and wakes detract somewhat from the grandeur of the place. Trip Highlights: Opportunity to kayak in a steep-walled fjord and visit tidal glaciers. Wildlife viewing with main emphasis on seals and likelihood of seeing bears any time and mountain goats in May and June.
