The Stikine River area is exciting country that offers a startlingly different kind of kayaking from the rest of Southeast Alaska. Even though the Stikine is a major river, the paddling in its lower reaches is not at all river kayaking as the term is understood by aficionados of that pastime. If you go about it right, the Stikine is an easy kind of kayaking that combines great scenery with ample opportunities to see black bear, moose, and beaver. Camping spots are abundant and easy to access, and there is even a hot spring at which the Forest Service maintains a hot tub in a take-your-breath-away setting.
