Anytime you and your dog can drive up a paved road and set foot and paw on a trail that passes several lakes and streams with a backdrop of mountain peaks between patches of forest interrupted by wildflower meadows, that’s a winning hike. The trail to the largest Frog Lake takes in four lakes, two streams, and a historic miner’s cabin for scenic good measure, and it has more than a fair share of High Sierra scenery highlighted by evergreens and spring wildflower blooms. The Hoover Wilderness’s almost 125,000 acres borders the Yosemite Wilderness to the west. It was first established as a primitive area in 1931. In 1957 it became a “wild’ area and in 1964 was designated a wilderness area within the Humboldt- Toiyabe National Forest. Beauty with accessibility attracts visitors.
