The Lykken Trail is named after Carl Lykken, Palm Springsā€™s ?rst postmaster. This trip leaves the western boundary of Palm Springs and heads up the east ?ank of the San Jacinto Mountains. It features a 180-degree view from north to south. All of Palm Springs is laid out before you. To the north and across the Coachella Valley, you can see the Little San Bernardino Mountains and the south end of Joshua Tree National Park. To the east you can see Palm Springs and the airport. You can watch airplanes take o? and ?y beneath you! To the southeast you see other cities of the Coachella Valley: Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, and Palm Desert. To the south you see the Indian Canyons and Palm Canyon almost to its beginnings. An added bene?t at the end of the trip is that you can walk a few blocks to Palm Canyon Drive and have a bite to eat and something to drink at one of the outdoor restaurants.
