This hike is unique in that its central attraction is a building: Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest. It’s a masterpiece. But yes, there is a hike here. It follows a headwater stream of Patton Creek as it drops through Boulder Canyon. Downstream from the library, near Vestavia Hills Elementary School Central, a waterfall is hidden away. You’ll find a few longleaf pines on the ridges and some grand beech trees along the creek, which is pretty but shows the strains of draining its urbanized surroundings—it’s hard to ignore the trash and erosion.
