This is one of the great rural road rides in the East Mountain area—the other side of the Sandias, east of Albuquerque. You will be making a big circle around Cedro Peak (elevation 7,767 feet) and cycling for about half the ride through part of Cibola National Forest. The roads in the area are often used in local and state road races. The highlight of the Oak Flat Cruise is the “New Mexico Route 217 Rollers.” Each April the physical therapy club at the University of New Mexico, along with Two Wheel Drive, put on a benefit ride on this loop called the Get Fit Cycling Festival. Terrain: Nice descent through Cedro Canyon, some flat stretches, and the infamous rollers on New Mexico Route 217.
