If you love hill climbing and creekside cycling in beautiful wooded scenery, then head up the road that leads to the Taos Ski Valley. It isn’t quite as steep as the ascents to the ski areas in Santa Fe or at Sandia Peak but should satisfy even the strongest cyclist. The end of the road, and the turnaround point for the ride, brings you to the Taos Ski Valley, a European-style village that is bustling with activity year-round. This hill climb is a good workout, despite the moderate length; and after the huffing and puffing, you get to fly back down, stopping for ice cream at the well-known Taos Cow in Arroyo Seco. Terrain: Slight upgrade at the start that turns into continual, moderate climbing with more than 2,000 feet of climbing and miles of downhill on the way back.
