Running from subalpine lakes and meadows to transition forest and chaparral, this hike tours the botanically rich northernmost Trinity Mountains on a crossing from the Trinity to Sacramento river drainages. It also offers a side trip to the rocky summit of Mt. Eddy, where you can get probably the most overwhelming view anywhere of California’s greatest peak, Mt. Shasta. The first half of the hike, to Deadfall Lakes and back, is a popular, midsummer retreat for fishing and swimming, while the stretch down the headwaters of the Sacramento River sees relatively few hikers.
