This trip represents the best and the worst of the High Sierra. The best entails picturesque alpine lakes, such as Thousand Island, Garnet, Minaret, and Ediza, and spectacular mountain scenery from the Ritter Range, which includes such notable summits as Mt. Ritter and Banner Peak, as well as the string of arĂȘtes known as the Minarets. The worst includes battling fellow backpackers for a limited number of wilderness permits, traffic congestion in Reds Meadow Valley, and camping bans due to previous overuse.
