Located on the eastern slope of the Sandias off Crest Highway; about 30 miles northeast of Albuquerque. This ride combines 10K North Trail with Ellis Trail to create a 5-mile loop. When the trails intersect, both continue into the wilderness area where mountain bikes are not allowed. On 10K North Trail, you will ride mostly downhill through a beautiful dense forest of spruce, fir, and aspen. The excellent wooded singletrack is occasionally interrupted by technical, rocky moves. Once on Ellis Trail, views open to the east down Las Huertas Canyon. This wide trail is the result of a 1960s highway construction project that was never completed, due to public protest. The ugly roadcut stretched several miles before it was aborted. Today, wildflowers are plentiful on this meadow-like section of the ride. 4 miles on singletrack and 1 mile on pavement.
