If you're a strong beginner seeking more thrilling rides than the nearby paved bike path, you'll be glad to know you can find mild to intermediate technical singletrack trails in the popular Paige Meadows area. The Meadows is actually a group of several open fields nestled on the top of a hill. Getting there entails some moderate climbing but beginners with good endurance are likely to find this route worthy of their efforts. Even though these trails link to a wide-ranging network of outstanding trails, Paige Meadows by itself is a favorite area among riders of all abilities statewide, thanks to miles of sweet single-tracks that run through thick evergreen forests and open meadows. Stronger and more technically skilled riders can access several other trails that connect to this ride and create a much longer, more technically challenging adventure. The configuration of the loop clocks in at almost 12 miles, using about 3.5 miles of paved roads, 6.5 miles single- and double-tracks, and 2 miles on the paved West Shore Bike Path. The climbs are easy to moderate, ascending a respectable 1,000 feet to the high point of about 7,240 feet. The views of the peaks in nearby Granite Chief Wilderness from the open meadows are gloriously breathtaking and in late spring, the meadows are adorned with a wide variety of wildflowers.
