Once again you will be riding through gorgeous alpine forests of pine, spruce, and aspen. This is another great moderate trail with some really nice singletrack riding, perfect for someone wanting to get comfortable riding off road. The singletrack of the Faulty Trail and other trails outside the wilderness area on the back side of nearby Sandia Mountain are some of the best in the Albuquerque area. The Faulty Trail follows the contour of the hillside for about 3 miles before intersecting Barts Trail, which will take you down to FR 299, the road to the Cole Springs Picnic Area where you left your car. It is about a third of a mile back to the campground from where the trail hits the road. If you miss the left-hand turn at Barts Trail, you will know when the trail starts heading uphill. At this point you will be entering the Sandia Mountain Wilderness Area, which is off limits to mountain bikes.
