This is an easy ride that traverses hard-packed dirt roads, with only a few rocky spots out around the volcanoes and along the volcanic escarpment where the petroglyphs are found. There are miles of fun, level, and rolling roads that wind around out among the volcanoes and along the escarpment, giving many different options. There are some short, steep technical climbs around the most southern and most northern volcanoes for those looking for a challenge. Sections of the trail near the mesa escarpment are covered with polished round stones crafted by the river when the ground here lay at the level of the floodplain. This is a good place to get out, have a look around, and get some exercise. Views of the city of Albuquerque, the Sandias, Mount Taylor, the Jemez Mountains, and toward Santa Fe are expansive from here.
