Cochiti Canyon is one of the prettiest canyons found in the Jemez. Beautifully sculpted volcanic tuff and sandstones form the canyon walls. Pinyon and juniper quickly give way to ponderosas that grow straight and tall from the canyon bottom. You’ll probably want to stop in at Dixon’s Apple Orchard at the mouth of Cochiti Canyon for some fresh cider or a bushel of crisp apples to take home after your ride. You will be able to ride here early in the spring and late into the fall. If this route remains dry and free of snow, it is great riding through the winter as well. Help is close by on this ride. Head down to the Cañada Ranger Station at the mouth of the canyon, or, if you are near the top of this canyon, seek help at Tent Rock Ranch.
