Starting from Loveland, this strenuous route tours some prime gently rolling terrain around Masonville before pointing upward at a brutal angle. Riders are invited (but not required) to test their strength on the road to Pinewood Lake, one of the toughest climbs around, before looping back to Loveland via the excellent road that traces the east shoreline of Carter Lake. This ride features one very difficult (optional) climb to Pinewood Lake. There is an additional, much shorter climb to Carter Lake. The rest of the ride is on flat or gently rolling land. Most of these roads are generally moderate in traffic intensity. The brief sections on US 34 have wide shoulders.
