This trip involves a long but moderate climb up Rist Canyon—one of the finest road climbs on the Front Range—followed by a very fast descent into Poudre Canyon. The final phase of the ride is a very long, slight descent back to Fort Collins on Highway 14, which occasionally has heavy traffic. Terrain: Mountainous. Rist Canyon is moderate overall, but long, and steeper at the top. Traffic and hazards: Rist Canyon is generally quiet, although the road could be wider. The descent on Stove Prairie Road is tricky. Traffic is heavier in Poudre Canyon, and the shoulder is thin to nonexistent. Confident riders only for this one.
