Resembling the shape of a lollipop, the Lovell Gulch Trail is a popular ride located in the heart of Woodland Park. This trail offers a scenic route through a large, open valley and some of the area’s best views of Pikes Peak. Camping is permitted at undeveloped sites along the trail. Climbing out of Lovell Gulch offers a moderate workout, but one well worth the effort as you intersect with the Rampart Range Road and the beginning of a screaming descent beneath power lines. The trail is well marked by National Forest trail signs. Terrain: Singletrack and doubletrack over mostly smooth terrain through mixed conifer forests. There are some rockier and sandier sections, with one stream-crossing. Parts of the trail, like many trails in the Colorado Springs area, are covered in Pikes Peak granite.
