Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers riders a network of prime singletrack. Prior to the summer of 2000, Golden Gate Canyon State Park only allowed bikes on its trails located in Jefferson County. In the summer of 2000, however, portions of the park in Gilpin County were opened to bikes. Now the park offers riders more trail miles than it ever had before. Voted the “Best Bike Ride” in Westword’s “Best of Denver 2001” issue, the Mountain Lion Trail stands as a legacy of when riders were only allowed to ride the portion of Golden Gate Canyon that extended into Jefferson County. However, this trail stands the test of time and continues to invite more advanced riders to challenge themselves on its rocky and narrow singletrack. Weaving across meadows, through forests, up hillside climbs, and down creek sides, the Mountain Lion Trail offers a lot of incredible terrain. Terrain: Singletrack and doubletrack that passes through open meadows, along rocky creeks, and through mixed conifer forests.
