Hewlett Gulch is a favorite among mountain bikers in and around Fort Collins. Its fast singletrack, big drop-offs, creek-crossings, killer climbs, and one very rocky descent will satisfy any mountain biker’s idea of a good ride. Although technically and physically moderate to challenging, the ride serves first-time mountain bikers well as it can be ridden at any pace. For those who like to grab air, there’s a great spot at the 2.3-mile mark where the trail dips into a small gully. With enough speed, you’d swear you were flying. Terrain: Rough doubletrack and singletrack. This trail has many creek crossings and weaves in and out of mixed conifer forests before climbing up through a meadow. Although most of this ride is manageable by the intermediate rider, there are big drop-off sections, as well as one of the rockiest singletrack descents in all of the Front Range.
