The Blackfoot River Recreation Corridor is primarily used by boaters and anglers. This ride offers plenty of the same scenic pleasures as you follow an old railroad bed upriver, tracing the route of not just steam engines but also the region’s Native American tribes. Famous Missoula author Norman Maclean wrote of this section of river in his classic, A River Runs Through It. It’s a relatively easy route, appropriate to beginners, with swimming and plenty of river access along the way that experienced riders looking for exercise can combine with a more challenging out-and-back route. On the return for this ride, beware of traffic, especially logging trucks. During summer the road gets lots of weekend motorized use and tends to be prohibitively dusty. Tread: Mostly doubletrack and jeep roads on the way out, with improved road on the return.
