Launching directly from the town of Telluride, on flat terrain, this gem of a ride features some of the most easily accessible singletrack in Southwest Colorado. The out-and-back route featured here includes two surviving sections of the historic Rio Grande Southern (RGS) railroad grade. The mileage is substantial, but the conspicuous lack of brutal climbing—typical for abandoned railroad cuts—makes the miles fly by. The general theme is fast cruising on a wide trail. Novices should take note that an abbreviated version of this ride, cutting the total distance down to 13 miles, is a traditional and loveable option. Trail Surface: 60% singletrack/widetrack and 40% dirt/4WD roads (you’ll also cross a bit of pavement).
