The Sale Barn and South Rim trails are both brand new strips of smooth singletrack southeast of Durango, built in the summer of 2000 by volunteers working with the Trails 2000 organization. Already these excellent tracks are showing signs of becoming local favorites. This loop uses both trails in their entirety (and also some of the Cowboy Trail, another smooth, curvy strip of dirt in the Grandview Ridge area). Start the ride from the new Sale Barn trailhead off of U.S. Route 160, which at present is one of the ugliest and least obvious trailheads you’re likely to see, with all kinds of dead dirt and industrial relics camouflaging the singletrack. If not for the small sign placed there by Trails 2000, it would be very difficult to recognize the start of this infant trail—a classic blessing in disguise. The Sale Barn Trail is the kind of singletrack you’d like to keep secret, if that were somehow possible. Trail Surface: 100% singletrack.
