The start of this 4WD route can be reached either from Crested Butte by way of the Reno Divide or from Tincup or Buena Vista by connecting with Taylor River Road (County 742) at Taylor Park Reservoir. The route commences heading west on a well-maintained passenger vehicle road. The turnoff to Taylor Pass is a little more than two miles after the town site of Dorchester. From this point, the road is 4WD, although initially it is just a bumpy road through the forest. Special Attractions: Very challenging 4WD trail; Taylor Lake, an attractive alpine lake near the summit; A challenging creek crossing; Spectacular summit views; Aspen viewing in the fall. This trail is for experienced four-wheel drivers only. It is potentially dangerous, with large rocks, ruts, or terraces that may need to be negotiated. It may also have stream crossings at least 18 inches deep, involve rapid currents, unstable stream bottoms, or difficult access; steep slopes, loose surfaces, and narrow clearances; or very narrow sections of shelf road with steep drop-offs and potentially challenging road surfaces.
