This is a delightful, easy route through pine and aspen forest and open meadows. Backcountry campsites abound, and except in hunting season, the area is lightly used. This easily navigated route starts at the intersection of Los Piños Pass Road and Hinsdale County 5 at Cathedral Junction. The pass is only six miles east from this point along an easy, 2WD road. Los Piños Pass is a gentle, wooded crossing. Special Attractions: Easy, scenic route; Aspen viewing in the fall; Historic stagecoach route; Numerous backcountry campsites; Can be combined with South-Central Trail to form a loop. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any).
