The two routes between Mears Junction and Marshall Pass join at the summit. FR 243 continues along the old railroad grade into Sargents. This section of the journey runs through gentle, rolling countryside and ranch land with many stands of aspens adding color in the fall. At Sargents, there is an old wooden water tank that used to service the steam locomotives that chugged up Marshall Pass from 1881 to 1953. Special Attractions: Northern access to Marshall Pass; Steamtrain water tank in Sargents. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any).
