The first section of this route via FR 250 over Stunner Pass is a well-maintained dirt road. The pass stretches between the Alamosa River to the north and the Conejos River to the south. It offers a peaceful journey through gentle, rolling hills, interspersed with rock formations and overlooks that provide wonderful views along the valley and across the mountains. Abundant aspen groves spangle the hillsides in gold during the fall. The area also offers many accessible campsites and hiking trails. Special Attractions: The well-preserved ghost town of Summitville; An easy 4WD trail that is not heavily used. High-clearance vehicles are preferred, but not necessary. This trail is dirt roads, but may have rocks, grades, water crossings, or ruts that make clearance a concern in a normal passenger vehicle. The trail is fairly wide, so that passing is possible at almost any point along the trail. Mud is not a concern under normal weather conditions.
