Waterton Canyon is a favorite trail among Denver-area residents. As such, it may be crowded during the weekends. The trail begins on a wide, dirt service road, as it travels through the canyon. Following the South Platte River, this section of the trail offers a mellow cruise, a great family ride. The trail, however, becomes increasingly more difficult, with steeper climbs and moderate switchbacks, as one nears the trailhead and beginning at the 470-mile Colorado Trail. Reaching this junction of the Colorado Trail and the Roxborough Connection, riders continue on the Roxborough Connection. Note: the beginning of the Roxborough Connection is very thick and overgrown, so control your speed. This section of trail offers a screaming singletrack descent, complete with steeps and creek crossings, before letting out into Waterton Canyon. Terrain: Singletrack, doubletrack, and improved dirt road. The singletrack and doubletrack offer a variety of terrain; sand, rocks, and softened forest growth
