Lory State Park / Horsetooth Mountain Park is prime real estate for some of the area's best mountain biking. The Mill Creek Trail is one of the most technically and physically challenging rides in all of Fort Collins. Riders climb into the semi-arid woodlands of Colorado's Front Range, the first step into the Rocky Mountains. Aside from gorgeous views of Colorado's Eastern Plains, this route offers rolling terrain alongside Horsetooth Reservoir, a burly climb to Horsetooth Mountain, and a steep and rocky descent down the Mill Creek Trail. The 4,500 acres that make up Lory State Park and Horsetooth Mountain Park boast a venous network of trails. This network, running along the transitional ecology of the Rocky Mountain foothills, weaves its way through a variety of terrain and vegetation: unique rock outcroppings, sandstone hogbacks, grassy open meadows, cacti-laden hillsides, and ponderosa pine forests.
