Linking the Cache La Poudre-North Park Scenic and Historic Byway and old logging roads, the Bockman Campground Loop offers a mostly mellow ride with two miles of somewhat difficult climbing over 10,000 feet. The loop introduces the rider to pristine North Park, the Moose Viewing Capital of Colorado. The many logging roads make for a variety of mountain bike options; although, know that many of the logging roads have gone unused for years and bear the effects of strong winters. Caution should be observed when riding these roads. Some of the routes depicted by the Colorado State Forest Park mountain bike map are not accurate (e.g. The Grass Creek Loop does not connect to Colorado 14 anymore). The Bockman Campground Loop is a great loop to do during the week, when motor traffic is considerably reduced. Be sure to carry insect repellent, as the mosquitoes in the North Park can be dreadful. Terrain: Surface includes paved highway, improved dirt roads, and rougher jeep roads. The rougher jeep roads have sections of considerable washout, owing to the area's harsh winters. There are a number of ruts with which to contend; otherwise, mostly easy going.
