Located 25 miles northeast of Helena, about 6 miles east of York in the Big Belt Mountains. Spectacular limestone cliffs tower 1,000 feet above the narrow creekbed and trail, sheltering a variety of plants and birds. Deer, black bear, and cougar are occasionally seen. The trail itself follows what's left of the old roadbed that washed away in a major flood some years back. In places it offers a fine technical challenge, with longer intervals of easier riding. Except for a handful of abrupt climbs, the grade is moderate (though scree, rock gardens, and other obstacles may compel riders to gear down into tractor mode).
