This picturesque ride doesn't require any special technical abilities. The initial ascent parallels a brook that runs amongst boulder outcroppings and aspens. Check out the domesticated elk ranch as the road levels out, then pedal through Junkins Park. The Sangre de Cristo views and rapid descent just add to the fun. From San Isabel Lake drive 15 miles north on state Highway 165 to McKenzie Junction and turn left on CO 96. The next left is County Road 358. This is the trailhead. The first 9 miles climb gradually. Tread: 14.8 miles of dirt road and 4 miles of paved road.
