Running from Central City north to Estes Park, the 55-mile Peak to Peak Highway comprises some of the state's most bracing scenery, including Rocky Mountain National Park and the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to fashion a short Peak-to-Peak loop. Any real circuit involves 4,000-foot climbs from the floor of Boulder Valley, too many miles and too much effort to be recommended as a "short bike ride." If you are up to it, every part of the highway is rideable, with excellent shoulders. Surface: paved 2-lane highway. Things to See: Indian Peaks of the Continental Divide, historic Raymond and Riverside.
