Fort Collins can be considered great because of its proximity to four wilderness areas and more campgrounds than your likely to find clustered anywhere else. While this is true, the city's worth visiting as well. And a bike is the best way to see it. Fifty miles north up the Front Range, Fort Collins is like Boulder without affections. Like its neighbor, Fort Collins has about 90,000 neighbors, a big university, a red brick downtown restored down to the last pilaster, and ribbons of paved, off-road bikeways. And it's also a place where the bicycle has won respect as a vehicle. You'll rarely get blown off the trail by a Cat II racer. It's more likely that you'll meet families slowly cranking Huffy beach bombers toward fishing holes. Surface: Cement/asphalt bike path. Things to See: Cache la Poudre River, historic downtown, nature center with captive eagles.
