This ride is a Boulder favorite. The beginning of the ride has a four-mile rocky descent followed by a steady but easy ascent to Mt. Alto Picnic Ground. The last half of the trail is flatter and much smoother along an abandoned railroad bed before ending in a talus field near Sawmill Road. Although the route might be long for some, much of the terrain is easy, making it a not-too-strenuous intermediate ride. Terrain: Rocky to smooth single / double track, some gravel road.
