Idaho Springs may not conjure up great single track rides, but a few are there if you are willing to look. Don't be surprised if you own this trail. Watch out for the occasional mine shaft. The last portion of this ride requires good technical skills as it is steep with some loose surface. Start by climbing steeply on the dirt road. As the road levels, turn on to the first road on your right (Forest Road 194) and continue uphill (0.6). As the road breaks into a meadow, find another road on the right and climb for a short distance where a singletrack trail can be found on the right just as you reach a logging area (1.0). The single track climbs easily on smooth surface to a small clearing (1.5), where the trail makes a hard left. Continue to climb, now more rocky, to the south. The trail rolls along the ridge top, sometimes in the open, but mostly in the trees. Terrain: Dirt road, smooth to rutted hardpack, some rocks.
