This short four mile out-and-back on doubletrack service roads makes for a good day trip to the river for some swimming, fishing, or just hanging out and watching the river roll by. You can ride to the Clear Spring source, which gushes out anywhere from 4,500 to 45,000 gallons per minute before it reaches the murky red confluence with the Suwannee River less than a half mile downstream. The doubletrack is not a technical workout, although the remnants of an old sand mine have spilled out on a slight grade. The big, soft ruts can catch the front tire and knock it around like a bobcat catching a chipmunk. Churning through the white stuff is a significant challenge even on level ground, but you will find the upper limit of your legs' explosive strength when you get a hill with a sandy purchase.
