There are places in Pomfret and Woodstock where time seems to have passed very slowly. Come see. Start the ride at the Pomfret post office, which is located on Route 44 just east of the junctions of Routes 44 and 169. Return to the junction, then turn right onto 169 north, which is a real roller coaster of a hill as you leave town. At about the 3-mile mark, you will come to a stop sign, where Route 171 crosses 169. Turn left and continue on 169 to the town of Woodstock. You will see a pink Victorian mansion on the left. This is the Bowen Mansion, built by Henry Bowen in 1846. There are extensive herb and flower gardens on the grounds, and at various time during the year you may be guided through the mansion by actors in period clothing. The riding surfaces is rated good. Things to see: Pomfret School, Woodstock, Bowen Mansion, Roseland Park and Lake, Wappaquasset Pond.
