There are short (35 miles), intermediate (43 miles), and long (55 miles) versions of this ride, which take you through the busiest of urban Florida and the most bucolic pastures. The highlight will be your glimpses of the only river in North America, and one of only two in the world, that flows from south to north, the wide and beautiful St. Johns. Traffic and hazards: Traffic on US 17, alternately a four- and six-lane divided highway, is routinely heavy as is traffic in Orange Park. Much of this challenge is routed through side streets, which brings on its own hazards from drivers coming to rolling stops at intersections, doors of parked cars suddenly opening, and the urge to ride too fast. A quarter of the ride is routed on a multiuse trail and another quarter is two-lane country roads.
