The Oleta River State Recreation Area is the premier mountain bike trail facility in Florida’s state park system. Located on 1,043 acres of mostly dredged spoil between the Oleta River, Intracoastal Waterway, and Biscayne Bay, it’s the largest urban state park in Florida. Though surrounded by a reestablished mangrove fringe, the greater part of this park is composed of Australian pine and other exotic plants (efforts are under way to replace many of these with native vegetation). There are fourteen primitive cabins (air-conditioning but no water or baths) in the recreation area. Motels and hotels are found 4 miles to the west at the interchange of I–95 and State Road 826, and a similar distance to the east in Miami Beach. Trails: Paved bike trail, 1.5 miles (parallels park entrance road); dirt single-track and limerock roads, 12–14 miles.
