This ramble offers riders the chance to take in some of the nation’s most hallowed monuments from the saddle. The route covers mostly flat terrain and should take about ninety minutes, although opportunities to dawdle abound: The Smithsonian and other museums, the White House, and the Washington Monument are all part of the tour. The loop’s length and lack of hills make it ideal for beginners, but even intermediate riders will enjoy pedaling past testaments to centuries of U.S. history. This tour combines the great houses of government with the great houses of knowledge.Things to see: Washington Monument, Smithsonian museums, U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Union Station, the White House, Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
