This route combines human-made marvels with the natural beauty of the Potomac River and, for those fortunate enough to ride it in early April, the heralded Tidal Basin cherry blossoms that draw residents and tourists alike. This 13-mile loop incorporates stretches of the D.C. and Virginia banks of the Potomac and views of the Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial, and Seward Johnson’s massive statue The Awakening. The terrain is mostly flat, except for Arlington Cemetery, making it suitable for novice cyclists. The ride could take weeks if you savored all the riches en route. This is Washington at its most Athenian. Things to see: FDR Memorial, Tidal Basin, Hains Point, Jefferson Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
