St. Augustine is the oldest city in the U.S. This ride passes by many historic sites of the city. First on the route is the old fortress, Castillo de San Marcos. The existing structure was built of coquina rock, which consists of bits of shell and limestone. A moat separates the inner fort from the outer walls. The route continues along the Matanzas River and crosses the Bridge of Lions. Cycling is almost to fast a mode of transportation to allow you to fully absorb this picturesque landscape of marble lions and gaze out upon the colorful sailboats and yachts anchored along the glistening river. Terrain: flat.
