This ride is located in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, near the eastern entrance at Ingonish. On this 19-mile out-and-back trail, you will climb consistently on the outbound trip and enjoy a much swifter ride, downhill, back to the trailhead. The ride begins on an access road before the signed Lake of Islands trailhead. This gravel road has recently been closed to automobile traffic, and you will follow signs to the former Lake of Islands parking area. From there, you will continue on a rocky old road to Branch Pond and Lake of Islands. Beyond Branch Pond, the trail is rougher. It is not maintained and requires a more adventurous spirit. The landscape becomes more exposed, and the trail quite rocky. Pay attention to any possible changes in the weather, and try to avoid being caught in the barrens in fog, wind, or rain. Although the trail requires only intermediate skills, riders should possess above-average endurance and judgment. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
