Clarenville is the access town to the Bonavista Peninsula, nestled against a backdrop of low mountains and looking out across Random Island toward Trinity Bay. This 15-mile combination ride climbs to a former communications tower site, where sweeping views extend in every direction. Beginning in Clarenville, the ride follows the multi-use trail along a converted railroad bed heading out of town. You will turn off this initial spur and descend on an eroded cart track, before picking up an access road and riding up to the top of the former communications tower site. This point is certainly the highlight of the ride, as it offers grand views in all directions. On a clear day, you will be able to look out over Randowm Island and far across Trinity Bay. The ride concludes with a long, gradual descent from the former communications tower site along the rail trail back into town. Overall, the ride demands intermediate-level biking skills and good cardiovascular endurance. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States.
