The trail is in Waterton Lakes National Park in southern Alberta. This 11.23-mile out-and-back, beginner-level trail starts at the immensely popular Red Rock Canyon Day Use area. It quickly leaves the crowds behind along a wide fire road. The road has many washouts due to the floods of 1995, so be careful as you negotiate these obstacles. With bear grass along the margins, the trail follows the base of Mount Glendowan to the right and Anderson Peak to the left. To the south, Hawk Mountain's glacial bowl, or cirque, stands out sharply. The trail shows the iron-rich, red rock that has made this area famous. Shortly beyond the trailhead, views toward the bowl on Newman Peak above Goat Lake open up. As you travel beneath Avion Ridge, the lower slopes become a wonderland of cow parsnip as the trail traverses a long avalanche slope. The bowl on Lost Mountain to the south also offers a wonderful photo opportunity. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
