The Fenland Trail is short but sweet. Along its 1.14-mile length, the trail winds through some pleasant wetlands as it follows the winding course of Echo Creek. As you roll your way through the old-growth forest, keep your eyes open for wildlife. It's common to spot elk and deer along the trail, as well as waterfowl, belted kingfishers, and even an occasional eagle. This is a marsh; if you plan on relaxing on the many benches en route, don't forget your insect repellent. To really appreciate this trail, stop at the Park Information Centre and pick up a self-guiding trail brochure. While you’ll find a dispenser at the trailhead, it rarely contains brochures. Keep in mind that this route traverses a favorite calving area for the local elk population, and since people regularly get injured during the spring, the most sensitive time, the wardens close the trail for several weeks. Check with the information centre to make sure the trail is open.
