Skogan Pass is located east of Canmore near Dead Man's Flats, Alberta. This 12.6-mile point-to-point or out-and-back trail takes you from the Trans Canada Highway over Skogan Pass and then descends to the Kananaskis Valley near the 1988 Winter Olympic downhill site. It is almost all wide fire road, so it's passable for beginners, as long as they have a high fitness level. The climb is 2,221 feet in only 6.11 miles between the trailhead and the pass. As you climb, the views to the east stretch to Canmore and beyond- all the way to Cascade Mountain near the town of Banff. Later, as the trail drops down the north side of the pass, the views of Mount Kidd and The Wedge open up, and the Kananaskis Valley unfolds in front of you. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States.
