A fascinating hike that visits a pair of active geothermal areas in the southwestern corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park, the hike through Warner Valley also boasts exceptional meadows, springs, and creeks. Among the highlights of Lassen Volcanic National Park are the geothermal features that are scattered around the base of Lassen Peak. These features are all remnants of Mount Tehama, an ancient volcano that was annihilated in a final eruptive event. Though that mountain is now gone, Lassen Peak has taken its place, and the fiery forces that formed the mountain and then destroyed it are still at work beneath the surface of the earth. These are manifest in the fumaroles, mudpots, and hot springs found in several locations in the southwestern part of the park. One of the best ways to experience the geothermal features in the park is to hike the trails of the Warner Valley.
