The Grand Loop on Mount Diablo is a strenuous but rewarding hike on one of the iconic landmarks of the Bay Area. This view-packed hike leads through remote forests and chaparral up to the summit, where one of the most staggering vistas in the world awaits. Mount Diablo is one of the highest mountains in the Bay Area and probably the most prominently visible. Situated to the east of San Francisco Bay and rising out of the at flat lands just south of the delta of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, Mount Diablo can be seen from all over the Bay Area. It can also be observed from distant counties in the Central Valley and even from the great Sierra Nevada to the east.
